Volunteers from Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas, are following in the footsteps of Mother Theresa in Kolkata this week.

They are volunteering in two of Mother Theresa’s 12 homes. In the mornings, the Kingsland team volunteers at a home for adults who cannot take care of themselves. In the afternoons, they volunteer at the Mother Theresa children’s home.

They’ve encountered open wounds, less than sterile surfaces and men and women who cannot feed themselves.

Robin, Kingsland volunteer, said she had the opportunity to feed a woman who couldn’t feed herself. She blew on the tea to cool it and then soaked bread in chai tea to make it soft enough to chew.

Robin admitted one of the hard things about volunteering was that patients soil themselves. Volunteers are tasked with cleaning up the mess.

Several volunteers had the opportunity to sing “How Great Thou Art,” with a woman. She later asked them for a Bible.

Cynthia, another volunteer, said the day was hard for her because of her nursing background; she wished she could do more.

Other Kingsland team members washed dishes, cleaned floors and provided company for patients.
