It’s not unusual for women to go secretly to Amna Vastrad* asking for prayers of healing. In her neighborhood, word’s gotten around that she’s found a religion offering real peace and a God who answers prayers.

Praying for others is how Vastrad introduces other Muslims to her personal Savior. Her own conversion experience started with a desperate prayer for the healing of her son. She sat in the hospital chapel staring at a photo of Jesus and ended up pleading for his help. She married into a Muslim family. Her father was Hindu and her mother Catholic, so she had some idea about Jesus and other gods. She thought that she might as well try praying to Jesus – it wouldn’t hurt. Her son was already on his death bed.

“I talked to Him and immediately felt His presence,” she remembers. “He answered me – not just by healing my son, but I felt His presence next to me. From that moment, I knew Jesus was alive.”

In the beginning, she didn’t tell anyone about this experience. She kept talking secretly to her God who answered prayers. She told Him how she was scared to tell anyone about her new faith, especially her husband, and how she wanted to learn more about Him.

He always answered.

Then, He started nudging her to share with her husband. He had already noticed something was different. In fact, he admitted to his own Muslim family that his wife had found the one true religion and he wanted it, too.

With her husband now by her side as a believer, God nudged Vastrad again. He wanted her to reach out to other Muslim women. The most natural way for her was through prayer. Many heard her story of how prayer healed her son. They began coming to her. By praying with the women, Vastrad said doors opened to share the Gospel.

“One woman came to me in secret so I could pray for her family,” she said. “I started talking to her about Jesus and how we all can go to Him. When I told her that He is a living God, she said, ‘I know. I can feel His presence.’ That woman is now a believer.”

Vastrad said she sees God working among the Muslim population. Just a few years ago, there were very few believers and no place for a Muslim background believer to worship. Now, she knows several who have made Christ their Savior, and there are places where they can worship together.

“It is slow work,” she admitted. “But, God always prepares the way. He always answers our prayers.”
