
Impatience is the boundary line between education and reality — literally and figuratively.
The pink, five-leaf flower called, “Impatiens,” forms a hedge separating the yellow and salmon colored Christian school from an amorphous body of water.
If anything, these children are impatient to learn. It’s the inquisitive nature so commonly associated with a child-like spirit that fuels their impatience to leave no rock uncovered.
Children from the lower castes of India who can’t afford private or government schools often attend schools like this Good News Christian Education Mission School for free, receiving a Christ-centered education.
English, science, geography and math are some of the classes the kids take at school. This week is Vacation Bible School. Each year during VBS, a character in the Bible is chosen. This year’s character is Daniel who is, according to a teacher, a fitting influence for students. Daniel studied diligently under Babylonian rule. God blessed his inquisitive nature because Daniel honored God first above the king and his regimen.
Who knows, maybe God will give them the interpretation of a dream. Maybe He’ll grant courage to stand up to their own lions. Maybe He’ll grant them the patience to weather life on the streets of the slums of Kolkata.
