One small room played host to 15 people.  Several Christian women shared Bible stories with unbelieving Hindu neighbors. A lady in the corner began shaking.  As her convulsions become more violent, Rachel heard foreign whispers from the people around her.

“They say she has an evil spirit in her,” Rachel’s translator explained.

Quickly, Rachel and others from the Southeastern team gathered to pray around the convulsing woman. As the group prayed, Rachel wasn’t sure how she was supposed to feel.

“I have never been in a situation like this before,” Rachel silently spoke to God. “This does not add up with my seminary-trained mind.  Am I supposed to feel something weird? Should I feel oppression because of evil spirits?”

As the prayers for the woman became more fervent, Rachel simply reminded herself in prayer that the Lord is supreme, and He has the victory.

As the prayers ended, the woman arose. The words from her lips were praises to God Almighty, Rachel recalled.  Others confirmed that the woman had been delivered from the evil spirit. At that moment, both the woman and her brother accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, along with others in the room.

Before this event, the other non-believers had politely and with quiet interest listened to the Bible stories, Rachel recalled. They believed in their heads that Jesus was a good man but not a Promised Savior. They were willing to follow Him if He could do good things for them.

“After the woman’s healing,” Rachel smiled, “they believed in their hearts.”
