“I see this monk everyday,” *Pastor Kanak said, “and now I know he has at least heard the Good News.”
Pastor Kanak faces many barriers in sharing the Gospel in the area of Mumbai, India, where his small house church meets. Still, Pastor Kanak firmly believes in the power of God to change lives. So, when a team of volunteers from Southeastern arrived in Mumbai, Pastor Kanak took them first to his community.
A Buddhist monk was one of the first people the team met in the community. Though he was not interested in the Gospel, Pastor Kanak was encouraged. He has always wanted to share with this man.
The next stop was the home of a Hindu family. Initially, the family was uninterested, but as the pastor and a volunteer continued to tell them Bible stories, their interest peaked.
“By the time we left, they weren’t ready to get rid of their shrines, but they were ready to know more,” said Todd, one of the volunteers. “There’s some more work to be done there, but I think they are close to believing.”
Finally, the team entered the home of a Buddhist family. Tim spoke first to the mother.
“I went through the Gospel with her, and she immediately said, ‘Yes, I’m ready!’” Tim exclaimed.
After she prayed to receive Christ, she called her daughter and son-in-law into the room. She shared the stories of Jesus with them and told them of the decision she had made. When she finished, they prayed to receive Christ as well.
The local pastor was excited because he now has several people with whom to follow-up and disciple.
Tim summed it up well, “It was a very encouraging and humbling day.”
Through the efforts of believers like Pastor Kanak and this team of volunteers, the people of Mumbai are being changed by the power of the Gospel – one by one.
