*Ajani is a new believer. She is a timid young girl who barely spoke a word when we first met her in the home of a family of believers.
We had begun our day in this home with worship and fellowship. Grandfather shared stories of God’s faithfulness to his family. As we sipped tea, shared our stories, and prayed and sang together, Ajani listened quietly.
Our plan was to visit the Hindu neighbors and friends of this Christian family. As we broke into teams, I was part of an all-girl team. The women in the family insisted they join us and volunteered to translate.
Then, Ajani stepped forward. She sheepishly asked us to visit her family and to share our stories with them. We agreed, but as we shared with her family, Ajani remained silent.
We visited another home. Again Ajani joined us. She listened as we shared the story of Jesus with a room full of people. She watched closely as the translators re-told the story in their heart language. She remained silent as my teammate challenged believers to share their joy with their neighbors. She said little as people committed their lives to Christ.
The day was coming to a close, and although Ajani had been with us every step of the way, she had said very little. However, as we entered the final home of the day, Ajani suddenly stepped in to translate. She spoke confidently and passionately about the story that had recently changed her life.
This bashful girl had slowly become comfortable with us and confident in her abilities to share the Good News.
As we finished our day and waved goodbye to our new friends, we rejoiced in those who had chosen to follow Jesus, and we marveled at the timid young girl who so suddenly and boldly shared her faith.
